In a major step to revitalize the urban landscape of Rawalpindi, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has launched a comprehensive beautification project along Murree Road. With a dedicated budget of Rs. 160 million, the initiative aims to refurbish the metro pillars between Faizabad and Saddar, improve green belts, and introduce culturally significant monuments.
According to PHA Director General Ahmed Hassan Ranjha, the project is progressing steadily. As of now, work on 22 out of 226 metro pillars has been completed, with the segment up to Chandani Chowk scheduled for completion by the end of June.
Key Features of the Beautification Initiative
- Use of Karachi Sand: High-quality Karachi Sand is being used to refurbish the pillars, ensuring a preserved appearance for over a decade.
- Warm Lighting: Installation of ambient warm lights will enhance the visual appeal at night, making the route safer and more attractive.
- Advertisement Removal: All unauthorized and unsightly advertisements have been removed from metro pillars to restore visual harmony.
- Green Belt Enhancement: Landscaping and replantation efforts are underway along Murree Road to promote urban greenery.
- Beautified Entrance to Rawalpindi: The entrance point from Islamabad to Rawalpindi will receive a fresh aesthetic upgrade.
Future Plans: Monuments, Plantation & Cultural Expression
Looking ahead, PHA plans to integrate cultural and religious elements into the city’s design. In the next financial year, the authority will:
- Display Quranic verses on urban pillars
- Construct a monument inscribed with Durood Sharif on Rawal Road
- Plant 75,000 saplings along the Rawalpindi Ring Road
- Expand the Gorakhpur Nursery for a more robust supply of ornamental plants and trees
These additions are part of a broader vision to transform Rawalpindi into a green, culturally enriched, and visually appealing city.
Recreational Developments in Rawalpindi & Murree
In addition to urban infrastructure upgrades, PHA is also developing recreational facilities in Murree and Rawalpindi. These projects aim to improve public spaces, encourage tourism, and provide healthier environments for residents.
Toward a Greener, More Beautiful Rawalpindi
The Murree Road beautification project in Rawalpindi is a transformative step by PHA, reflecting a long-term vision for sustainable urban development. With upgraded infrastructure, cultural landmarks, and expanded greenery, the city is set to offer a cleaner, safer, and more attractive experience for residents and visitors alike.
