Motorway Sections Reopen as Fog Clears

As dense fog and smog conditions begin to ease across various regions of Pakistan, several major motorways have now reopened for traffic, providing much-needed relief to commuters. According to Syed Imran Ahmed, spokesperson for the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP), improved visibility has allowed authorities to restore traffic flow across key motorway sections that were previously closed for safety reasons.

The reopening of these important routes is expected to significantly enhance travel convenience, reduce delays, and ensure safer movement for both passenger and commercial vehicles. The following motorway segments are now officially open:

Motorways Reopened for Traffic

  • M-4 Motorway: Gojra to Abdul Hakim
  • M-3 Motorway: Jaranwala to Dera Khana
  • M-5 Motorway: Rahim Yar Khan to Rohri
  • M-2 Motorway: Fully open after fog clearance
  • Lahore–Sialkot Motorway: Reopened due to improved visibility

Motorway authorities emphasize that although the fog has cleared in most areas, drivers must remain vigilant as pockets of low visibility may still occur, especially during early mornings and late-night hours.

Safety Advisory for Motorists

To ensure smooth flow and reduce accident risks, NHMP has issued a set of essential guidelines for travelers:

1. Slow Down

Reduced speed is crucial in areas where fog or smog may persist. Slower driving ensures better control over the vehicle.

2. Use Fog Lights

Motorists should switch on fog lights when traveling through low-visibility zones to improve vehicle visibility for themselves and others.

3. Stay Informed

Travelers are advised to monitor weather updates and keep track of traffic advisories issued by the motorway police.

4. Maintain Extra Distance

Maintaining a safe gap between vehicles can help prevent sudden collisions when fog reduces reaction time.

5. Avoid Overtaking

Motorway police strongly discourage overtaking in fog-prone areas to avoid unnecessary risks.

With these routes now open and visibility conditions improving, the NHMP continues to work around the clock to support safe travel for all road users. Authorities urge travelers to follow safety guidelines strictly to ensure accident-free journeys as winter conditions persist.
