The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have released a detailed set of safety and travel guidelines for citizens traveling to Raiwind for the annual Tablighi Ijtima, one of Pakistan’s largest religious gatherings. These new measures aim to ensure the safety of thousands of participants while maintaining smooth traffic flow across national highways and motorways.
Officials emphasized that only registered, fitness-certified, and roadworthy vehicles will be allowed to travel on the motorways. Vehicles that are unsafe, unregistered, or not designed for passenger transport — such as open-body pickups, Mazdas, or trucks — have been strictly banned. The use of such vehicles poses serious risks not only to passengers but also to other motorists.
Strict Enforcement and Vehicle Checks
NHMP representatives confirmed that stringent safety checks are being conducted at all motorway entry and exit points. Enforcement teams have been instructed to turn back unfit or unauthorized vehicles immediately at toll plazas to prevent potential accidents.
The advisory also prohibits rooftop travel on buses, coasters, and high-speed vehicles — a practice that remains illegal and highly dangerous during long-distance journeys.
Safety First for All Travelers
Participants were urged to cooperate with Motorway Police officers deployed along the routes, maintain lane discipline, and avoid vehicle overcrowding, which can disrupt emergency response operations. Authorities also advised travelers to verify vehicle documentation, ensure proper maintenance, and plan journeys in advance to minimize delays.
In addition, citizens are encouraged to stay updated through Motorway Police helplines and official digital information channels, which will provide real-time traffic updates and safety alerts throughout the Ijtima period.
Commitment to Safe Travel
Motorway Police officials reaffirmed that participant safety remains their top priority during large-scale gatherings. With increased highway traffic expected, adherence to these regulations will help prevent accidents and ensure a peaceful travel experience for everyone on Pakistan’s national road network.
By following these new guidelines, travelers can contribute to a safer, more organized, and disciplined highway environment, reflecting the shared responsibility of all citizens to protect lives and uphold traffic laws.
