The motorbike and three-wheeler market in Pakistan has witnessed a significant uptick, with sales growing by 16.87% during the first two months of the fiscal year 2024-25. This marks a notable improvement compared to the corresponding period last year, reflecting growing demand in the two- and three-wheeler segment, according to the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA).

Key Highlights of Sales Performance (July-August 2024):

  • Total Sales: A total of 189,227 units of motorbikes and three-wheelers were sold, surpassing the 161,906 units sold in the same period last year.
  • Honda Motorcycles: Honda led the pack with a robust 17.25% increase in sales, rising from 137,083 units last year to 160,738 units this year.
  • Suzuki Motorcycles: Suzuki saw an impressive growth of 32.47%, selling 3,549 units compared to 2,679 units in the previous year.
  • United Auto Motorcycles: United Auto’s sales also grew, registering a 12.25% increase, moving from 14,832 units to 16,649 units.

Declining Sales

Despite the overall growth, not all brands experienced positive trends:

  • Yamaha Motorbikes: Yamaha saw a significant 60.30% drop in sales, with only 645 units sold compared to 1,625 units last year.
  • Road Prince Motorbikes: Road Prince also experienced a decline, with sales dropping slightly from 2,698 units to 2,649 units.

Three-Wheeler Sales on the Rise

The three-wheeler segment showed notable gains as well:

  • United Auto Three-Wheelers: Sales increased by 28.8%, from 125 units last year to 161 units.
  • Qingqi Three-Wheelers: Qingqi recorded a 40.71% surge, selling 1,296 units compared to 921 units last year.
  • Sazgar Three-Wheelers: Sazgar saw the most substantial growth, with sales rising by an impressive 76.59%, from 1,850 units to 3,267 units.

The increase in motorbike and three-wheeler sales highlights a positive trend in the country’s automotive market, driven by demand for affordable and efficient transportation options. While brands like Honda and Suzuki enjoyed significant sales boosts, Yamaha and Road Prince saw declines, indicating a shift in consumer preferences. As the fiscal year progresses, it will be interesting to see how these trends develop and what it means for the Pakistani automotive industry.
