Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has instructed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to accelerate work on several major development projects across Islamabad. The directives came during a late-night inspection visit following his attendance at the Pakistan–Sri Lanka cricket match in Rawalpindi.
Naqvi chaired a detailed review meeting at the CDA headquarters, where officials briefed him on the current status of the city’s key infrastructure upgrades. He then personally inspected ongoing construction at Shaheen Chowk, the T-Chowk Flyover, and the Faizabad Interchange improvements.
During the briefing, CDA officials reported that approximately 80% of the T-Chowk Flyover has been completed, marking significant progress toward easing heavy traffic flow on one of the city’s busiest routes. Meanwhile, 65% of work at Shaheen Chowk is finished, where expansion efforts aim to reduce congestion and improve mobility for daily commuters.
Officials further informed the minister that 70% of the Faizabad Interchange loop expansion is complete. This crucial project is designed to streamline traffic between Islamabad and Rawalpindi by removing existing bottlenecks and increasing road capacity.
Although these projects were initially expected to be completed between March and April, Mohsin Naqvi stated that the current pace of work indicates they can be finished by the end of next month. He directed the CDA to ensure the revised deadline is met without compromising construction quality or safety standards.
During the visit, the minister also inquired about the long-pending Margalla Avenue extension from GT Road to the Peshawar Motorway. He urged the CDA to initiate work on the remaining section, emphasizing the importance of completing the strategic road link that will significantly cut travel time and reduce traffic load on existing routes.
Naqvi’s directives reflect the federal government’s renewed focus on accelerating Islamabad’s infrastructure development, ensuring smoother traffic flow and improved urban mobility for residents and visitors.
