Maryam Nawaz Orders 1,115 Electric Buses and Accelerated Development Projects Across Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has instructed the provincial administration to make 1,115 electric buses operational by December, signaling a major step forward in Punjab’s push for sustainable public transport. Chairing a high-level meeting to review progress across eight key departments, she also directed Deputy Commissioners to expedite the establishment of charging stations across the province to ensure the smooth rollout of the electric fleet.

The Chief Minister also approved a uniform design for bus stops across Punjab, emphasizing public convenience and aesthetic harmony. She reviewed the district-wise rollout plan for the electric bus initiative and called for early work on the Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SRT) project, a futuristic transit system aimed at easing congestion in major urban centers.

Accelerating Urban and Housing Development

During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz reviewed the performance of the Housing and Urban Development Department and appreciated its rapid expansion. The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has grown its operational presence from five cities to 19 within months, with plans to reach 25 districts by the end of the year.

The Chief Minister highlighted that over 5,000 water filtration plants are currently functional across Punjab and directed Housing Minister Bilal Yasin to personally inspect them. She further ordered that clean water delivery and maintenance of these plants be included in the Deputy Commissioners’ KPIs, ensuring accountability and efficient service delivery.

Model Village and Placer Gold Projects Underway

In line with her broader vision of inclusive rural development, Maryam Nawaz was briefed that the Model Village Project is already underway in 472 villages across Punjab. These villages are being equipped with parks, paved streets, upgraded drainage systems, and improved sanitation, representing a holistic approach to community uplift.

She also instructed relevant departments to formally launch the Placer Gold Project, ensuring its benefits directly reach the people and contribute to the province’s economic growth.

A Vision for a Modern and Sustainable Punjab

Under Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, Punjab’s development agenda is rapidly shifting toward sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity. From introducing electric public transport and expanding clean water access to modernizing rural infrastructure, these initiatives reflect a comprehensive effort to enhance the quality of life for millions of residents.

The rollout of 1,115 electric buses, along with infrastructure upgrades and green initiatives, positions Punjab as a national leader in sustainable urban development and climate-conscious governance.
