By The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has intensified work on several high-impact infrastructure and public welfare projects in Islamabad, with the long-awaited Margalla Avenue–Motorway M-1 link entering its final pre-construction stage. Officials confirmed that construction will commence immediately after the completion of the bidding process, marking a significant milestone in the capital’s road network expansion.
The project will directly connect Margalla Avenue to Motorway M-1, providing a seamless route between Islamabad and major northern and central regions of the country. This strategic connection is expected to reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion within city limits, and improve regional trade and commuter mobility.
Rs 3.58 Billion Technical Bids Opened
According to an official press release, technical bids worth Rs 3.58 billion have already been opened. The financial bids will be reviewed next, after which the construction contract will be awarded. The CDA emphasized that technical preparations for the next phase are already complete, ensuring that work can begin without delay once formalities conclude.
On 26 February 2026, CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa chaired a high-level meeting at CDA Headquarters. Senior officials from administration, engineering, planning, finance, procurement, and infrastructure departments reviewed progress on multiple development initiatives.
Focus on Traffic Management and Road Upgrades
Beyond the Margalla Avenue link, the authority assessed progress on key traffic and road improvement schemes, including congestion relief at Kashmir Chowk and development of the Expressway Service Road East. Measures to ease bottlenecks between Express Chowk and Aga Khan Avenue were also discussed.
These projects aim to address Islamabad’s growing traffic load, driven by population expansion and increased vehicle ownership. Improved road infrastructure is expected to enhance safety, reduce fuel consumption, and support sustainable urban growth.
Model Graveyard Planned in Pandoriyan
On the civic welfare front, the CDA directed swift finalization of a model graveyard design in the Pandoriyan area. The facility will feature spacious prayer halls, ablution areas, ample parking, and easy access from major roads. Modern amenities such as an electric hearse, ambulance services, and CCTV surveillance will also be included to ensure security and convenience for families.
Emphasis on Quality and Environmental Compliance
The CDA leadership instructed departments to secure timely Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for upcoming projects. Officials reiterated the importance of strict quality control and adherence to established timelines.
With these initiatives, the CDA reaffirmed its commitment to modernizing Islamabad’s transport network while improving civic facilities, signaling a balanced approach to infrastructure growth and public welfare.
