The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced plans to reopen the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad (MNJ) Road before Eid-ul-Fitr to boost tourism in the region. The crucial route, which connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Gilgit-Baltistan, has been closed since mid-November due to heavy snowfall.

Efforts Underway for Road Clearance

To ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the holiday season, officials have been instructed to clear glaciers and snow from the route as quickly as possible. The Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) recently conducted an inspection of the MNJ Road and nearby routes to assess the work needed for reopening.

Boost for Local Businesses and Tourism

Reopening the MNJ Road is expected to provide significant economic benefits to local businesses, especially in Kaghan Valley, where tourism is a key driver of the economy. With Eid-ul-Fitr being a peak travel season, the return of tourists will support hoteliers, restaurants, transport services, and local traders who rely heavily on visitor spending.

Concerns Over Encroachments on the Karakoram Highway

While preparations for tourism are in full swing, traders and residents in Shinkiari have raised concerns over encroachments along the Karakoram Highway (KKH). They argue that congestion on this key route affects:

  • Travelers heading home for Eid celebrations.
  • Visitors coming for Ramadan and Eid shopping.
  • Tourists accessing northern areas.

Local stakeholders have urged the government to take immediate action to clear encroachments and improve traffic flow ahead of the festive season.

Final Thoughts

With road clearance efforts in progress, authorities are optimistic that the MNJ Road will be fully operational before Eid-ul-Fitr. This reopening is set to revitalize tourism, provide a boost to local businesses, and make travel easier for visitors exploring the breathtaking landscapes of northern Pakistan.
