By Lucid Motors has revealed a new robotaxi concept called the Lunar, signaling the company’s growing ambitions in autonomous transportation. The California based electric vehicle startup introduced the concept during its Investor Day event in New York, where it also showcased new midsize electric SUVs and future technology plans.
The Lunar robotaxi is designed as a compact two seat vehicle focused entirely on autonomous ride services. Similar to Tesla’s Cybercab concept, the vehicle has no steering wheel or pedals. Instead, passengers interact with a large central screen that controls ride information and entertainment features.
Lucid plans to build the Lunar on its upcoming midsize electric vehicle platform. This same platform will support the newly announced Cosmos and Earth electric SUVs. By using a shared architecture, Lucid aims to streamline development and expand its EV lineup more efficiently.
Efficiency and Charging Technology
Lucid highlighted efficiency as a key advantage of the Lunar concept. The company targets an impressive efficiency rating of about 5.5 to 6 miles per kilowatt hour. This figure is higher than many electric vehicles currently on the road in the United States.
Most EVs today deliver roughly 3 to 4 miles per kilowatt hour. Even Lucid’s own Air luxury sedan achieves around 5 miles per kilowatt hour. Engineers believe improved aerodynamics and reduced drag will help the Lunar reach these higher efficiency numbers.
The robotaxi will also benefit from advanced charging technology. Lucid plans to use an 800 volt electrical architecture on the midsize platform. This system enables extremely fast charging speeds.
According to the company, the Lunar could add more than 200 miles of range in about 15 minutes of charging. Fast charging is especially important for robotaxis because vehicles must spend more time transporting passengers and less time parked at charging stations.
Lucid’s Gravity SUV already demonstrates the potential of this technology. It can add around 200 miles of range in about 12 minutes when connected to a 350 kilowatt charging station.
Role in Lucid’s Autonomous Strategy
Although the Lunar remains a concept, it reflects Lucid’s broader strategy in automated mobility. The company is currently focusing on launching its midsize electric vehicles first. At the same time, Lucid is working to integrate higher levels of autonomous driving capability into its future models.
Lucid is also exploring the ride hailing market through partnerships with companies such as Uber and autonomous technology firm Nuro. These collaborations could eventually support a fleet based robotaxi service if autonomous systems reach full commercial readiness.
The Lunar concept shows how Lucid envisions the future of urban transportation. A small autonomous vehicle designed for ride sharing could reduce operating costs and improve efficiency compared with traditional taxis or larger vehicles.

However, Lucid has not confirmed whether the Lunar will reach production. The company’s immediate focus remains on bringing its new midsize electric SUVs to market.
If those vehicles succeed and autonomous technology continues to advance, the Lunar robotaxi could eventually compete with concepts such as Tesla’s Cybercab. For now, the concept highlights Lucid’s ambition to expand beyond luxury electric cars into next generation mobility services.
