In a major infrastructure development, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has finalized plans to construct a new expressway connecting Arfa Karim Tower to Pine Avenue, Raiwind Road. The ambitious project, aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving urban connectivity, has already reached the PC-1 submission stage and awaits official approval from the Planning and Development Department.
According to LDA Chief Engineer Israr Saeed, the project’s estimated cost exceeds Rs. 9 billion. He emphasized that the expressway will be an environmentally friendly initiative, designed to provide significant relief to Lahore’s road network while promoting smoother, faster transit between central and southern parts of the city.
The proposed Arfa Karim Tower–Pine Avenue Expressway will feature a three-lane dual carriageway, ensuring ample capacity to handle heavy traffic volumes. The first phase of construction will cover the stretch from Arfa Karim Tower to Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, forming the foundation of the broader route that will eventually extend to Pine Avenue, Raiwind Road.
Officials have confirmed that a topographic survey for the entire alignment has already been completed. The LDA has also sought a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to proceed with technical and environmental approvals.
Once completed, the expressway is expected to divert thousands of vehicles daily away from Kalma Chowk, one of Lahore’s busiest intersections. By offering an alternative corridor from the city’s IT and business hub at Arfa Karim Tower to the rapidly developing southern districts, the project aims to reduce congestion, cut travel time, and improve urban mobility.
The expressway is being described as a landmark infrastructure project for Lahore, aligning with the government’s long-term vision to enhance urban transport, promote sustainable mobility, and improve residents’ quality of life.
As Lahore continues to expand southward, the LDA’s new expressway represents a strategic investment in urban planning and traffic management. Once approved, construction is expected to commence soon, setting a new standard for efficient and environmentally conscious city infrastructure.
