The Punjab Traffic Police have launched an intensified campaign against one-way violations, a major cause of road accidents in urban areas. According to official data, a total of 29,704 challan tickets were issued this month, marking a 98% increase compared to 15,000 challans issued last month.
In Lahore alone, traffic police issued more than 10,000 challans during the ongoing campaign. Officials have stressed that such measures are essential to curb reckless driving and prevent road accidents caused by motorists traveling against the flow of traffic.
Heavy Fines for Violators
As part of the crackdown, offenders are being fined Rs. 2,000 for driving the wrong way. Authorities have made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for violators. Repeat offenders may also face stricter consequences as enforcement efforts continue.
Directives from DIG Traffic Punjab
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Punjab, Muhammad Waqas Nazir, has directed all Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Traffic Officers (DTOs) to intensify field operations. He emphasized that teams must remain active on roads at all times to identify violators and take immediate action.
“One-way violations are a leading cause of accidents. Citizens must realize that following traffic rules ensures their own safety and that of others,” Nazir stated.
Road Safety Awareness
The police have also appealed to the public to adopt a responsible driving culture. Citizens are urged to:
- Always follow road signs and lane discipline.
- Avoid driving against one-way traffic at all costs.
- Cooperate with traffic wardens during checks.
Towards Safer Roads in Punjab
By doubling down on traffic enforcement, the Punjab Traffic Police aim to reduce the number of road accidents across the province, especially in Lahore, where traffic congestion and violations are widespread. The latest crackdown serves as both a warning and reminder that traffic safety is a shared responsibility requiring discipline from every driver.
