By The Lahore City Traffic Police have announced a comprehensive New Year’s Eve traffic plan aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow and public safety across the city during celebrations. With thousands of residents expected to be on the roads to welcome the New Year, authorities have finalized extensive arrangements to prevent congestion, reduce accidents, and maintain law and order.
On the directives of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Dr Athar Waheed, a large-scale deployment strategy has been put in place. Under this plan, 20 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and more than 1,400 inspectors and traffic wardens will be deployed throughout the city. Zonal and divisional officers will supervise operations, while administrative staff have also been assigned on-ground duties to further strengthen traffic management efforts.
According to traffic police officials, additional personnel will be stationed at key roads, intersections, and flyovers that typically experience heavy traffic on New Year’s Eve. These include Azadi Flyover, Liberty Chowk, Defence Main Boulevard, Mall Road, Jail Road, Canal Road, and Main Boulevard Gulberg. Special emphasis has been placed on the entry and exit points of Mall Road to avoid bottlenecks and ensure uninterrupted traffic movement during peak hours.
The Traffic Response Unit will remain on high alert throughout the night to swiftly address issues such as wrong parking, traffic congestion, and sudden bottlenecks. Quick response teams will be deployed to clear obstructions and assist motorists wherever required.
CTO Dr Athar Waheed has issued strict instructions for zero tolerance against traffic violations during the celebrations. He warned that road blockages, reckless driving, drifting, one-wheeling, and other dangerous stunts will not be tolerated. Violators will be identified using Safe City surveillance cameras, and cases will be registered under relevant laws without any leniency.
In addition, the CTO urged parents to play an active role in ensuring road safety by closely monitoring their children during New Year’s celebrations. He specifically warned that motorcycles driven by underage riders will be confiscated immediately, stressing that this measure is necessary to prevent serious accidents and loss of life.
Traffic police have appealed to citizens to cooperate with law enforcement personnel, follow traffic rules, and celebrate responsibly. Authorities believe that strict enforcement combined with public cooperation will help ensure a safe, smooth, and enjoyable New Year’s Eve for all residents of Lahore.
