Major Traffic Disruptions Hit Lahore–Islamabad Route

Commuters across Punjab are facing significant travel disruptions today as multiple highways and key city routes have been closed due to security and administrative measures. The closures have affected travel between Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad, creating widespread congestion and delays throughout the region.

According to a traffic alert issued by Shaheryar Hassan (@shaheryarhassan) via CAOTG at 9:20 AM, the M2 Motorway from Lahore (Thokar Niaz Baig) has been completely closed, halting all vehicular movement toward Islamabad.

Shortly after, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) issued an official Safe City Traffic Alert at 10:00 AM, confirming the widespread closures and advising citizens to avoid unnecessary travel.

Routes Currently Closed in Lahore

The following major routes have been closed in both directions:

  • Lal Pul (both sides)
  • Thokar Niaz Baig towards Babu Sabu
  • Canal Road towards Jail Road (both sides)
  • Dharampura and Samanabad underpasses (both directions)
  • M2 Motorway (Lahore–Islamabad, both sides)
  • M3 Motorway (Lahore–Abdul Hakeem, both sides)
  • M11 Motorway (Lahore–Sialkot, both sides)

Authorities have requested travelers to opt for alternate routes and stay informed through the following channels:

  • Safe City Radio FM 88.6
  • PSCA’s official social media platforms
  • Traffic helpline (15 → press 6)

Motorists heading from Lahore to Islamabad are particularly urged to avoid Thokar Niaz Baig and Motorway interchanges, as traffic diversions are in place. Delays and congestion are expected to continue throughout the day until official clearance is announced.

This temporary disruption underscores the importance of real-time traffic updates and responsible commuting amid evolving security arrangements.
