The Punjab government has officially finalized the route for the much-anticipated Lahore Elevated Expressway, marking a major milestone in the province’s urban development strategy. The project, designed to improve city traffic flow and reduce congestion, will connect Gulberg to Babu Sabu via Gulshan Ravi along the Drain route.

According to official sources, a modern 3D automation survey of the entire track has been completed, allowing engineers to map and assess every segment of the 10.4-kilometer corridor with precision. This step ensures that the project will meet international construction standards while minimizing environmental and structural challenges.

Key Features of the Lahore Elevated Expressway

The Elevated Expressway is estimated to cost Rs. 105 billion and will feature:

  • A 10.4-kilometer four-lane dual carriageway designed for high-speed, signal-free travel.
  • Automated toll plazas on both ends of the expressway, equipped with modern electronic payment systems.
  • Multiple toll collection points strategically placed to provide access to nearby residential and commercial areas.
  • Dedicated lanes for public transport, ensuring inclusive mobility for all commuters.

Officials stated that future planning has already been completed at the LOS (Level of Service) stage to guarantee smooth traffic flow and operational efficiency once the project becomes operational.

A Step Toward Modern Urban Mobility

The Lahore Elevated Expressway aims to provide signal-free connectivity from key city neighborhoods to the motorway, drastically reducing travel time and vehicle congestion on main city roads. The project will also complement other major infrastructure initiatives such as the Orange Line Metro Train and Lahore Ring Road, creating a more connected urban transport network.

Construction is scheduled to begin soon, with the Punjab government targeting completion within two years. The provincial budget allocates Rs. 52 billion per year for the two-phase construction process.

Boosting Economic Growth and Connectivity

Urban planners believe the project will not only improve Lahore’s traffic management but also boost economic activity by enhancing access to industrial and commercial hubs. Once completed, the Elevated Expressway will serve as a vital transport corridor, reducing fuel consumption, lowering emissions, and saving travel time for thousands of commuters daily.
