Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a landmark step toward solving one of Lahore’s biggest urban challenges—traffic congestion. The provincial government is set to implement a Lahore AI traffic management system, inspired by Japanese models, to improve mobility and reduce daily gridlocks.

AI-Powered Tools for Smarter Traffic Flow

The new system will utilize infrared and ultrasonic technology to monitor real-time vehicle movement. By identifying traffic hotspots instantly, the AI system will help authorities reroute vehicles more efficiently. This will save commuters valuable time and fuel, while reducing the city’s carbon footprint.

Drone Surveillance for Aerial Monitoring

In addition to ground-based tools, Lahore Police will deploy drones for aerial surveillance. These drones will detect choke points, accidents, and unexpected road closures, ensuring quick responses and smoother flow during rush hours. With aerial insights, police will be able to make faster, data-driven decisions.

A Step Toward Modern Policing in Punjab

Maryam Nawaz highlighted that this initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to modernize Punjab’s policing with advanced technology. The Lahore AI traffic management system aims to align local infrastructure with international smart-city standards, improving not just traffic but also overall urban planning.

Impact on Urban Mobility Across Pakistan

If implemented successfully, Lahore’s AI-driven system could become a model for other cities in Pakistan, such as Karachi, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi, where traffic congestion remains a major issue. By integrating AI, drones, and smart monitoring tools, Pakistan takes a step toward sustainable urban mobility.
