Karachi commuters, take note! The KPT Flyover, a crucial link between Shahrah-e-Faisal, DHA, and Korangi, will be closed for one month starting April 26, 2025, due to essential repair and maintenance work. This major update was confirmed by Mayor Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, who emphasized that the closure is necessary to ensure the bridge’s structural integrity and public safety.

The Karachi Police and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) have jointly announced a detailed traffic diversion plan to help manage the expected congestion during the maintenance period. The repair work is specifically targeting one track of the KPT Bridge near Qayyumabad, affecting the flow of traffic from Baloch Colony, Korangi, and Akhtar Colony.

What You Need to Know:

  • Closure Period: April 26 to May 26, 2025
  • Affected Route:
    • The track from Baloch Colony Expressway leading towards Korangi Causeway and Defence (near Defence Police Station) will be closed.
    • The opposite track, going from Akhtar Colony to Korangi and Baloch Colony, will remain open.

Alternate Routes Suggested:

  • Vehicles traveling from Baloch Colony to Korangi are advised to use Qayyumabad Chowrangi (Hino Chowrangi).
  • Another alternative route to Defence is available through the FTC (Faisal Town Crossing) area.

The Traffic Police have urged citizens to plan their commutes carefully, especially students and employees traveling to colleges, universities, and workplaces. For real-time traffic updates or assistance, motorists are encouraged to contact the Traffic Police Helpline (Rahnama 1915) or check updates on their official Facebook page.

Public Reactions Amid Infrastructure and Power Challenges

The flyover closure comes at a time when public frustration in Karachi is already high. Residents in Liaquatabad and Azizabad recently protested against extended power outages, blocking major roads and expressing anger over frequent electricity cuts. City officials are under pressure to address both infrastructure maintenance and basic utility services simultaneously.

Plan Ahead to Minimize Disruption

The one-month closure of the KPT Flyover is aimed at strengthening Karachi’s aging infrastructure, but it will require patience and careful planning from commuters. Following the official traffic diversion plan and staying updated through legitimate sources will help minimize inconvenience during this necessary upgrade.
