In a decisive move to improve Karachi’s traffic infrastructure, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah chaired a high-level meeting on Friday at CM House to review key urban development projects. The session focused on the progress of the Korangi Causeway Bridge, additional developments along Shahrah-e-Bhutto, and potential solutions for chronic traffic congestion at Sohrab Goth.
Rs1 Billion Allocated for Korangi Underpass and Traffic Management
Chief Minister Shah allocated Rs1 billion for the construction of a much-needed underpass to streamline traffic between Korangi Causeway and CBM Road. The funds will also be used to improve road geometry, allowing smoother traffic flow from multiple directions. A centralized roundabout design was approved, which will be further refined to align with on-ground conditions.
Korangi Causeway Bridge Project Progress
The Korangi Causeway Bridge, part of a broader Rs9.3 billion infrastructure initiative, is currently under active development. The project includes multiple traffic loops, along with enhancements to the 3000 Korangi Intersection, aiming to ease congestion and improve connectivity in the area. Saeed Ghani, Sindh’s Minister for Local Government, presented the project briefing during the meeting.
Approval for Sammo Goth Flyover and Road Links
The Chief Minister also granted technical clearance for a new flyover near Sammo Goth and approved various connecting roads. He directed the Planning & Development (P&D) Department to secure all necessary approvals within a week and begin construction without delay.
Integrated Urban Mobility Plan for Sohrab Goth
Addressing Karachi’s traffic bottlenecks, especially around Sohrab Goth, CM Shah instructed the P&D and Local Government Departments to collaborate on a comprehensive traffic solution. The plan will involve remodeling the existing roundabout, improving access roads from Lyari Expressway, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulshan Chowrangi, and Gulshan-e-Mayor, ensuring better mobility across the city.
Final Thoughts
This ambitious infrastructure push by the Sindh government marks a significant step toward solving Karachi’s traffic woes. With substantial funding and coordinated planning, these projects could dramatically transform urban mobility and ease commuter challenges in the city.
