Authorities in Karachi have announced extensive traffic arrangements ahead of the main procession marking the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali (RA), which will be taken out on Wednesday.
According to the Karachi Traffic Police, the central procession will begin from Nishtar Park at 1:00 PM and will conclude at Hussainia Iraniyan Imambargah after passing through its traditional route.
Due to security arrangements and crowd management, several major roads in the city will remain closed to general traffic throughout the procession.
Major Roads to Remain Closed
Traffic police have confirmed that the following roads will remain closed during the procession:
- MA Jinnah Road from Guru Mandir Chowk to Tower
- Saddar Road from Empress Market to Regal Chowk
Authorities said these closures are necessary to ensure the safety of participants and to maintain smooth movement of the procession.
Alternative Routes for Commuters
To minimize disruption, the traffic police have issued a detailed diversion plan for motorists traveling through the city.
- Vehicles coming from Nazimabad can turn right at Lasbela Chowk and proceed toward Nishtar Road via Garden.
- Commuters from Liaquatabad can travel through Teen Hatti toward Lasbela Chowk or turn left toward Central Jail via Martin Road.
- Traffic moving from Hasan Square toward PP Chowrangi can use Kashmir Road via New Town, Sharea Quaideen via Society Light Signal, or Jail Flyover toward Teen Hatti and Nishtar Road.
- Motorists traveling from Sharea Faisal toward Numaish via Sharea Quaideen are advised to turn right from Society Light Signal toward Kashmir Road and Jail Flyover.
Vehicles traveling from the Central Jail Gate on Jamshed Road toward MA Jinnah Road will be diverted through Bahadur Yar Jang Road, Soldier Bazaar, Holy Family Hospital, and the Coast Guard route.
Routes for Commercial Traffic
Special arrangements have also been made for heavy and commercial traffic entering or passing through the city.
Vehicles coming from Manghopir Road and Pak Colony toward MA Jinnah Road will be diverted through Nishtar Road via Garden Zoo and Ranchore Line.
Commercial vehicles from Super Highway, Gulberg, and Liaquatabad heading toward MA Jinnah Road will be redirected from Liaquatabad No.10 toward Nazimabad Chowrangi No.2. From there, they will pass through Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Sher Shah, and Mauripur.
Similarly, commercial traffic entering the city through the National Highway will be routed through Sharea Faisal, Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hasan Square, Liaquatabad No.10, and Nazimabad Chowrangi No.2 before proceeding toward Mauripur.
Additional Restrictions and Parking Ban
Authorities have clarified that no vehicles will be allowed beyond Guru Mandir Chowk on the main procession route. Traffic will instead be diverted toward Bahadur Yar Jang Road, Soldier Bazaar, and Lasbela Chowk.
Entry onto MA Jinnah Road will remain strictly prohibited, except for vehicles carrying official procession stickers. Vehicles distributing sabeel, niyaz, or tabarruk will only be permitted to enter the route from Tower.
Traffic police have also imposed a complete parking ban along the procession route to ensure smooth movement and maintain security.
Advisory for Citizens
The Karachi Traffic Police have advised residents to plan their journeys in advance, use the designated alternative routes, and follow traffic instructions to avoid unnecessary delays.
Large religious gatherings and processions are held every year to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA), and authorities typically implement detailed traffic management plans to ensure public safety and minimize disruption across the city.
