One-way airfares on the Karachi–Lahore route have crossed Rs 68,000, with some last-minute tickets being sold at even higher prices. Both Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and private carriers have increased fares sharply as seat availability continues to shrink closer to travel dates.
The situation has been further aggravated by the February 5 public holiday, which has encouraged a large number of people to travel to Lahore for Basant-related festivities, social events, and short vacations.
Passengers Complain of Unaffordable Air Travel

The shortage of railway tickets has left many travelers with no alternative but to opt for air travel, despite inflated fares. Transport analysts believe that insufficient planning for seasonal travel demand has worsened the situation.

Travel industry experts advise passengers to book tickets well in advance when traveling during festivals and public holidays. With Basant 2026 drawing closer, Karachi to Lahore airfares are expected to remain high unless airlines add extra flights or Pakistan Railways increases capacity to meet the surge in demand.
