Heavy Traffic and Tight Security in Karachi as Religious Party Announces Citywide Sit-ins

Karachi witnessed massive traffic jams and heightened security on Monday after a religious party announced sit-ins at five key locations across the city. The demonstrations have prompted authorities to deploy large contingents of police and Rangers to maintain public safety and prevent any escalation.

According to initial reports, sit-ins were planned at the following major points:

  • Al-Asif Square
  • Star Gate
  • Five Star Chowrangi
  • Tower
  • Numaish

Following the announcement, Shahrah-e-Faisal, one of Karachi’s main arteries, became heavily congested. Long queues of vehicles stretched from Metropole to the airport, while adjacent routes, including University Road and Rashid Minhas Road, also experienced severe traffic pressure.

Law Enforcement Response

Police officials confirmed that, as of now, no large-scale protests are ongoing; however, law enforcement agencies remain on high alert. Teams of police and Rangers have been stationed at sensitive intersections and entry points across the city to deter any untoward incidents.

Authorities have urged the public not to believe in unverified social media reports, assuring that protesters in New Karachi were dispersed and that ten individuals involved in violent acts were arrested.

In New Karachi and near 4K Chowrangi, protesters attempted to disrupt traffic by throwing garbage on roads and committing minor acts of vandalism. Police intervened promptly, arresting five demonstrators and restoring normal flow of vehicles. Similarly, in Khawaja Ajmer Nagri, attempts to forcibly close shops and markets were thwarted, and patrols were intensified to prevent further disturbances.

Officials reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone violating Section 144, warning that cases are being registered against individuals inciting unrest.

Advisory for Commuters

Commuters are advised to avoid protest areas, use alternate routes, and stay updated via Karachi Traffic Police helplines and social media channels. Those traveling to or from the airport are particularly encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time.

The city administration continues to monitor the situation closely, aiming to balance public safety with uninterrupted urban mobility amid evolving circumstances.
