In a move to enforce stricter traffic discipline across the city, DIG Traffic Karachi Peer Muhammad Shah has announced that riding or driving without a valid license will now result in a Rs. 20,000 fine. The warning serves as part of Karachi’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety through its new e-challan system.
Peer Muhammad Shah urged all citizens to keep their driving licenses updated and to strictly follow traffic laws, stating that no violators will be exempted from penalties. He further added that speed limits for all vehicles have been fixed at 60 km/h, and those exceeding this limit will face fines for overspeeding.
Karachi’s Smart e-Challan System in Action
The announcement comes shortly after the launch of Karachi’s faceless e-challan system, which automatically detects traffic violations through an advanced camera network. The system marks a significant step toward digital traffic enforcement and improved road discipline in the metropolis.
On the first day of implementation, the system issued 2,662 e-challans within six hours, amounting to more than Rs. 12.5 million in fines. According to official data:
- 419 challans were issued for overspeeding.
- 1,535 for not wearing seat belts.
- 507 for motorcycle riders without helmets.
- 166 for red-light violations.
- 3 for lane violations.
Stronger Enforcement Ahead
DIG Peer Muhammad Shah emphasized that the traffic monitoring system will continue to be upgraded to enhance detection accuracy and ensure compliance with traffic rules. He reiterated that Karachi’s traffic police are committed to reducing accidents and promoting responsible driving behavior through technology-driven enforcement.
With this strict new policy and enhanced digital surveillance, Karachi drivers are being urged to follow traffic rules, carry valid licenses, and respect speed limits — or face heavy penalties under the city’s modernized traffic management system.
