As the holy month of Ramadan 2025 approaches, Karachi’s roads are witnessing severe traffic congestion as thousands rush to markets for pre-Ramadan shopping, ARY News reported.

Major Areas Affected by Traffic Jams

With increased movement of vehicles and shoppers, several key roads and intersections in Karachi are experiencing heavy traffic congestion. Some of the most affected areas include:

  • Natha Khan Flyover
  • Shahrah-e-Faisal
  • Rashid Minhas Road
  • Liaquatabad Super Market
  • Lea Market
  • Saddar Empress Market

In addition, traffic bottlenecks have been reported on:

  • Karsaz to Civic Centre
  • Essa Nagri Lyari Expressway
  • Dalmia to Johar Mor

With increased shopping activity and market rush, authorities are advising commuters to plan their routes carefully and expect delays.

Ramadan Moon Sighting and Start Date

In preparation for the holy month, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to hold a meeting in Peshawar today (February 28, 2025) to determine the sighting of the Ramadan-ul-Mubarak moon.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a “good chance” of the Ramadan 1446 AH moon being sighted on March 1, 2025. If the PMD’s forecast holds, the first day of Ramadan will fall on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

Significance of Ramadan

Ramadan-ul-Mubarak, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a sacred period observed by Muslims worldwide. During this month, Muslims engage in fasting, abstaining from food, drink, gossip, and cursing from dawn to sunset.

The month is a time for spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and devotion. Muslims are encouraged to focus on:

  • Prayer and worship
  • Reading the Holy Quran
  • Charitable acts and helping those in need

As the city gears up for the sacred month, authorities are expected to implement traffic management strategies to ease congestion and ensure smooth mobility for residents.
