In a landmark move to modernize urban mobility, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Wednesday announced several new projects aimed at transforming Karachi’s public transport system. Speaking at a press conference, he confirmed the upcoming launch of double-decker buses and electric vehicles (EVs), which will provide citizens with affordable, comfortable, and eco-friendly commuting options.
Introduction of Pakistan’s First Pink EV Scooters
One of the most notable announcements was the introduction of Pakistan’s first pink electric scooters exclusively for women. These scooters are designed to provide a safe, affordable, and convenient travel alternative for working women and students, addressing long-standing concerns about safety and accessibility in the city’s transport network.
The pink EV scooters will not only promote women’s mobility but also contribute to a greener urban environment by reducing reliance on fuel-powered vehicles.
Modern Transport Projects for Karachi
The Sindh government’s transport upgrade plan includes:
- Double-Decker Buses – offering increased seating capacity and a comfortable experience for daily commuters.
- Electric Buses – aiming to cut emissions and improve air quality while lowering operational costs.
- Cycling & Pedestrian Facilities – development of dedicated tracks across Karachi to ensure safe and accessible travel for cyclists and walkers.
Moving Towards International Standards
Officials stressed that these initiatives will help bring Karachi’s urban mobility closer to international transport standards, while simultaneously addressing environmental challenges such as air pollution and traffic congestion.
By integrating modern vehicles, green technology, and safe infrastructure for all road users, the Sindh government envisions a more sustainable and inclusive transport system for Pakistan’s largest city.
A Step Forward in Eco-Friendly Urban Mobility
With the introduction of EV buses and pink scooters, Karachi is taking a significant step toward sustainable and gender-inclusive transport solutions. These efforts are expected to ease commuting challenges, reduce environmental impact, and set a new benchmark for public transport across Pakistan.
