The Sindh government has announced the expansion of the Karachi Pink Bus Service, introducing a new dedicated route that will officially begin operations on November 17. The exclusive women-only bus service, which has already gained popularity among working women and students, will now connect Abdullah Chowk to Numaish, adding a much-needed commuting option during peak travel hours.
The initiative was confirmed by Sindh Provincial Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, who emphasized that the new route is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to provide safe, reliable, and comfortable public transport for women in Karachi.
Fixed Daily Timings for Convenience
To better cater to women with varied professional and academic schedules, the buses will operate at three specific time slots every day:
- 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM
- 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
- 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
These timings align with school, university, and office rush hours, ensuring flexibility and reduced travel stress.
Comfort, Safety & Security Features
Minister Memon highlighted that the Karachi Pink Bus Service new route has been designed with a women-centric approach, addressing common concerns such as overcrowding, harassment, and lack of safe urban mobility. The buses are equipped with:
- On-board security protocols
- GPS tracking and monitoring systems
- Trained professional staff
- Easy and comfortable seating layout
The standard fare remains Rs. 50, while girls below five years can travel free of cost.
Government Expansion Plans for Women’s Mobility
The government recently expanded the Pink Bus fleet by adding 18 new vehicles, and further extensions are planned in the coming months. In addition, the Pink Scooty Scheme (Phase 2) is expected to begin soon, helping women achieve greater independence and personal transportation freedom.
A Step Toward a Safer, Empowering Transport System
The new route represents a progressive step toward improving women’s mobility, employment accessibility, and educational participation, reflecting the province’s commitment to gender-inclusive transport policies.
