Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed relevant departments to expedite work on key infrastructure projects in Karachi, including the new 22-kilometre link road, Shahrah-e-Bhutto Expressway, and the much-anticipated Korangi Causeway Bridge.
Chairing a high-level progress review meeting at CM House on Monday, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of completing these mega projects on time to enhance urban mobility, ease cargo flow, and boost Karachi’s economic connectivity with the rest of Pakistan.
One of the flagship developments under review is the 22km link road, which will connect the M-9 Motorway with the National Highway (N-5), offering a vital route for cargo movement between Port Qasim and the national road network. Developed in collaboration with the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and the National Highway Authority (NHA), the Rs. 3.53 billion project is progressing in three segments.
CM Murad Ali Shah directed the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Unit to ensure the link road opens by July 25. The remaining work on the new interchange is to be completed by the end of October, after which the old link road will be permanently closed.
Another critical Karachi road infrastructure project is the Shahrah-e-Bhutto Expressway, which has now reached 82% completion. The segment up to Quaidabad is nearly done, while the stretch from Quaidabad to Kathore is about 65% complete. Work on the elevated Samo Goth section is at 48%, and the Kathore interchange is also under active development.
The Korangi Causeway Bridge, valued at Rs. 6.1 billion, is also nearing completion, with progress now at 80%. The bridge is expected to open by November, providing a critical alternative route to reduce traffic congestion in the busy Korangi industrial zone. Tenders for its connecting junction are currently under process.
During the meeting, CM Murad Ali Shah stressed that the timely delivery of these Karachi road infrastructure projects is vital to reducing chronic congestion, streamlining cargo transport, and enhancing economic activity. Improved connectivity will not only benefit industrial hubs like Port Qasim and Korangi but also provide relief for thousands of daily commuters.
The Sindh government’s continued investment in road and bridge projects demonstrates its focus on modernizing Karachi’s transport network, boosting trade efficiency, and supporting the city’s role as Pakistan’s economic engine.
