This initiative aims to tackle the growing concern over unauthorized changes that compromise traffic regulation and facilitate criminal behavior.
According to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic, modifications like fancy or fake number plates, pressure horns, and excessively tinted windows pose serious challenges to law enforcement. These alterations often make it difficult for authorities to trace vehicles involved in illegal activities, providing criminals with a cloak of anonymity on Karachi’s busy roads.
What’s Banned?
The temporary ban covers a wide range of illegal vehicle modifications, including:
- Decorative or unauthorized number plates, especially green-colored ones
- Pressure horns and sirens that cause noise pollution and public disturbance
- Tinted windows exceeding legal visibility limits
- Unauthorized rotating or flashing lights installed without proper approval
Authorities have also prohibited the sale and installation of such equipment across the city. Police personnel—particularly Station House Officers (SHOs)—have been instructed to take strict legal action against violators, including registering formal cases.

In a bid to make the crackdown more effective, the public is being urged to report violations. The administration believes that community cooperation is key to ensuring lasting change in the city’s traffic discipline and security framework.
