Karachi Traffic Police Introduces Special Eid Traffic Plan to Manage Shopping Rush

With the arrival of the busy Eid shopping season, the Karachi Traffic Police has announced a comprehensive traffic management plan to maintain smooth traffic flow across the city’s busiest commercial areas. The plan includes the deployment of additional personnel and temporary restrictions on rickshaws, taxis, and commercial vehicles on several major roads and market zones.

The measures are aimed at reducing congestion as thousands of residents head to markets for Eid shopping.

Additional Traffic Personnel Deployed

According to Syed Pir Muhammad Shah, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic, traffic officers and section staff have been deployed across different districts of Karachi starting today.

Traffic personnel will perform duties daily from 7 PM until late at night, particularly near busy shopping centers and marketplaces where congestion typically increases during the Eid shopping period.

Authorities expect a major surge in traffic as Eid approaches, prompting stricter monitoring and traffic control measures.

Restrictions on Rickshaws, Taxis, and Commercial Vehicles

Under the special Eid traffic plan, several routes will have restrictions on rickshaws and taxis to prevent bottlenecks.

Key restrictions include:

  • Rickshaws and taxis not allowed from Allah Wali Chowrangi to Ittehad Signal.
  • Commercial vehicles will use alternate routes via Noorani Signal, Medi Care, and Shahrah-e-Millat Road.
  • Rickshaws and taxis will also be restricted from Fawara Chowk to GPO and from Singer Chowk to Zaibunnisa Street.

Drivers will be required to follow alternative routes such as M.R. Kiyani Chowk, Sarwar Shaheed Road, and Coast Guard Chowrangi to reach Regal Chowk or Tibet Centre.

Additional restrictions will apply between Tibet Chowk and Eidgah Chowk up to Jama Cloth Market, with alternate routes provided through Urdu Bazaar, Court Road Chowk, and Fresco Chowk.

Traffic Diversions Across Major Roads

The plan also includes diversions on several major roads in the city:

  • Rickshaws and taxis will not be allowed on Main Rashid Minhas Road.
  • Vehicles coming from Sohrab Goth near Sajan Kanta will use Sarfaraz Ghouri Road.
  • Traffic from Drigh Road will move towards NIPA via Millennium Bridge, while rickshaws and taxis will not be allowed under the bridge.

In case of congestion near Hyderi Market, commercial traffic from North Karachi will be diverted from Five Star Chowrangi toward Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan and Landi Kotal Chowrangi.

Vehicles traveling from Board Office will use KDA Chowrangi, Ziauddin Chowrangi, and Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan to reach North Karachi.

Alternate Routes for Central Karachi

Motorists coming from M.A. Jinnah Road will be directed through Singer Chowk, Preedy Street, and Saddar Dawakhana.

Traffic coming from the KPT Underpass will move toward Clifton Bridge via Bath Island. If congestion increases, vehicles may be diverted through Teen Talwar, Racecourse, or Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road.

Crackdown on Illegal Parking and Stands

Traffic police have also warned that illegal rickshaw and taxi stands near supermarkets and shopping areas will not be allowed during the Eid shopping period.

DIG Traffic Syed Pir Muhammad Shah urged citizens and drivers to cooperate with traffic authorities and follow designated routes to ensure smooth traffic movement across the city.

As Eid shopping reaches its peak in the coming days, authorities hope the plan will help reduce congestion and ensure a safer and more organized traffic flow in Karachi’s busiest commercial districts.
