The Excise and Taxation Department Islamabad has issued a stern warning to vehicle owners: pay your pending motor vehicle taxes by October 10, 2025, or risk cancellation of registration. The measure is part of a broader campaign to enforce compliance with tax laws under the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965.
Red Notices Issued to Defaulters
According to officials, red notices have been sent to all owners whose dues were pending as of June 30, 2025. Their vehicle registrations have already been suspended temporarily. If payments are not cleared by the deadline, the registrations will be permanently cancelled.
Authorities added that restoration of registrations will only be possible once owners settle their outstanding dues along with heavy fines. To facilitate taxpayers, special counters have been set up at excise offices.
No Concessions After Deadline
The department clarified that no concession or extension will be granted after October 10. Vehicle owners have been urged to act promptly to avoid penalties and legal complications.
Crackdown on Unlicensed Drivers
In a parallel development, the Islamabad Traffic Police has announced that starting October 8, strict action will be taken against drivers without valid licences.
The enforcement drive will include:
- Arrest of unlicensed drivers
- Registration of cases against violators
- Impoundment of vehicles driven without valid licences
Inspector General of Police (IGP Ali Nasir Rizvi) has directed officers to ensure full implementation of the crackdown. He warned that both drivers and vehicles found in violation will be detained at police stations without exception, applying equally to government and private drivers.
Impact on Vehicle Owners
The combined enforcement measures are expected to significantly impact Islamabad’s vehicle owners. Those with unpaid taxes or without proper documentation risk not only financial penalties but also the loss of legal vehicle ownership rights.
With the twin deadlines fast approaching, citizens have been urged to clear dues and update documentation to avoid legal consequences.
