By The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) released a detailed traffic advisory on Sunday, cautioning commuters about expected heavy congestion across several major routes in the capital on December 8 and December 9. The advisory aims to help motorists plan their travel efficiently and avoid unnecessary delays during peak hours.
According to ITP, traffic build-up is anticipated on December 8 between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., and again on December 9 from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Motorists have been encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time, consider alternative routes, and avoid non-essential travel during these specified windows.
Major Roads Expected to Face Congestion
The police noted that some of Islamabad’s busiest corridors may experience significant traffic pressure, including:
- Faisal Avenue
- Islamabad Expressway
- Srinagar Highway
Additionally, authorities temporarily closed Express Chowk and the Marriott Gate for entry into the Red Zone. To facilitate smoother traffic flow, the police advised commuters to instead use Serena Road, NADRA Road, or Margalla Road as alternatives for accessing the area.
Alternate Routes Recommended by ITP
To reduce bottlenecks, the advisory provided clear guidance for commuters traveling from various directions:
- Rawalpindi to Islamabad:
Motorists may take Rawal Road, 9th Avenue, Faqueer Aipee Road, or Srinagar Highway. - Islamabad to Rawalpindi:
Travelers can use Zero Point or follow Srinagar Highway toward 9th Avenue. - From Murree or Bhara Kahu:
Drivers may divert to Korang Road, the Bani Gala route, Park Road, or Lehtrar Road for smoother travel.
ITP Teams Deployed for Traffic Management
To ensure orderly movement, ITP confirmed that traffic officers will remain deployed at key intersections and busy points throughout the advisory period. Their role includes guiding motorists, controlling traffic flow, and addressing any unexpected disruptions.
