Islamabad Excise Department Tightens Token Tax Rules: Online Payment Options Introduced

The Excise and Taxation (E&T) Department in Islamabad is stepping up its efforts to ensure compliance with token tax regulations. Starting next year, stricter rules will come into effect, targeting vehicle owners who have failed to pay their dues. This move is part of the department’s initiative to streamline tax collection and enhance adherence to traffic and vehicle laws.

To make the process more convenient for residents, the department now offers multiple payment options. Vehicle owners with a smart card can pay their token tax online through the Islamabad City App, a user-friendly platform designed to facilitate digital transactions. For individuals who prefer in-person interactions, the local Excise office has extended its operational hours, now remaining open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This extended schedule ensures better access to services for busy residents.

Non-compliance, however, will have serious consequences. The department has announced that it will cancel the registration of vehicles whose token taxes remain unpaid. This measure emphasizes the importance of timely payments and serves as a strong deterrent for those who might otherwise neglect their tax obligations.

Vehicle owners are encouraged to utilize the online and extended in-person services to settle their dues promptly. Paying token tax not only ensures compliance but also helps avoid hefty penalties and maintains valid vehicle registrations.

With these new measures, the Excise and Taxation Department aims to create a more organized system while providing accessible solutions for citizens. Residents are advised to act early and use the available facilities to avoid last-minute rushes or interruptions to their vehicle usage. As these rules take effect in the coming year, timely compliance will be crucial to avoid potential inconveniences.
