Metro Bus Service Resumes Between Islamabad and Rawalpindi

The Metro Bus Service connecting Islamabad and Rawalpindi has been partially restored after remaining suspended for four consecutive days due to a protest that caused major road closures across the Twin Cities.

According to officials, the service has resumed operations from Saddar Station to Kashmir Highway in the first phase, while the Faiz Ahmad Faiz Station to Pak Secretariat section remains closed because of containers and blockades still present near D-Chowk.

The suspension had been implemented on the directions of the district administration amid security concerns arising from the protest organized by a religious group. Authorities stated that full operations will resume in the second phase once all roads are reopened and traffic movement returns to normal.

Partial Restoration of Blue, Green, and Red Line Services

A spokesperson for the Metro Bus Authority confirmed that the Blue, Green, and Red Line Metro Bus Services in Islamabad have also resumed operations. The authority added that electric bus services have been partially restored, with most routes now functional.

However, routes passing through the Red Zone and nearby restricted areas are still closed due to ongoing security measures. Officials emphasized that full electric bus operations will be restored as soon as the remaining roadblocks are cleared.

Protest Ends, Authorities Ensure Smooth Transition Back to Normalcy

The four-day disruption began after a religio-political group called for a protest that led to widespread traffic congestion and security blockades across Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The situation began to normalize after the group announced the end of its protest late Monday night, allowing authorities to begin the gradual reopening of key routes.
