Global new energy vehicle (NEV) leader BYD, through its official partner Mega Motor Company, has delivered BYD Atto 2 and BYD Sealion 7 EVs for patrol to Islamabad Police. This marks the first operational adoption of an NEV fleet by a federal department in Pakistan.
The induction was formally celebrated at an official ceremony inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Inspector General of Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi and Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Virk were also present, along with other senior officials.
The newly inducted fleet has been assigned specific operational roles within the police department, including traffic patrol and official mobility.
The introduction of electric vehicles is expected to reduce fuel dependency, lower operational costs, and bring emission-free mobility into daily policing operations across the capital.
This initiative comes at a time when Pakistan is facing significant fuel price volatility, increasing the need for cost-efficient and stable mobility solutions, particularly for high-usage public sector fleets.
Official Statement from Islamabad Police
Commenting on the initiative, an Islamabad Police official said:
“We are committed to adopting modern and sustainable solutions that enhance operational efficiency while serving the public responsibly. The integration of electric vehicles into our fleet marks a significant step toward reducing fuel dependency and enabling environmentally responsible policing.
It also reflects the vision of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister for a greener and more sustainable future, with Islamabad Police playing a leading role in advancing this agenda. This initiative lays the foundation for the gradual expansion of our NEV fleet as we continue to modernize our operations in collaboration with BYD.”
BYD Highlights Growing Confidence in EV Adoption
Danish Khaliq, Vice President Sales and Strategy at BYD Pakistan – Mega Motor Company, stated that the initiative demonstrates the practical viability of electric mobility in institutional use cases.
“Islamabad Police’s decision to integrate BYD’s electric vehicles into its operational fleet reflects growing confidence in our new energy mobility solutions for real-world use. As the first federal government department to take this step, it sets an important precedent for public sector organizations across Pakistan.
Beyond sustainability, this transition highlights a broader shift toward smarter fleet economics, where reduced reliance on fuel and lower maintenance requirements can significantly improve long-term operational efficiency.”
Technology and Long-Term Impact
BYD’s electric vehicles bring advanced technology to the fleet, including zero tailpipe emissions, Blade Battery technology, enhanced safety systems, and lower maintenance requirements compared to conventional vehicles.

In addition to environmental benefits, EVs offer significantly lower running costs, especially in high-utilization environments such as public service fleets. The vehicles also enable silent operation, which can be advantageous in urban law enforcement scenarios.
As public institutions in Pakistan explore sustainable transport solutions, this initiative highlights the growing role of electric mobility in reducing operational costs and dependence on imported fuel.
The Islamabad Police EV fleet sets a benchmark for future adoption across other government departments, signaling a gradual shift toward cleaner and more efficient mobility solutions.
