In a landmark infrastructure move, Pakistan is set to witness the fastest construction of an underpass in the country’s history. According to 24News, a 479-meter-long underpass connecting Islamabad Airport to Murree will be completed in just 35 days, as per the directives of Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi.

During a recent visit to the site, Minister Naqvi emphasized the importance of maintaining both speed and quality throughout the project. He also issued strict instructions to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow during the construction period by implementing efficient alternate routes.

Signal-Free Travel Between Airport and Murree

“This signal-free corridor will make travel between the airport and Murree much easier,” Naqvi stated. “It will also help reduce traffic congestion in Islamabad and save fuel.” The underpass aims to improve connectivity between two major locations, enhancing the travel experience for both residents and tourists.

The project is part of a broader infrastructure development initiative led by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). Chairman of the CDA, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, provided the minister with an update on progress, assuring that the timeline and quality benchmarks will be met.

Strategic Urban Development and Fuel Savings

The underpass is expected to significantly reduce travel time and traffic bottlenecks along key roads in Islamabad. By providing a signal-free route, the project also aligns with environmental goals—cutting fuel consumption and vehicular emissions.

Experts believe this infrastructure upgrade could act as a model for future rapid urban development projects in Pakistan. It also showcases how governmental coordination and modern project management practices can transform the nation’s transport landscape in record time.

A Boost for Tourism and Local Economy

With Murree being a top tourist destination, the underpass will not only benefit daily commuters but also support the tourism industry by making access easier and more efficient. This development is particularly crucial ahead of the summer season, when tourist traffic to Murree increases significantly.
