Islamabad–M1 Motorway Link Road Project to Begin Construction Next Month

Construction work on the much-awaited Islamabad M1 Motorway link road project is officially set to begin within the next month, marking a major breakthrough in the capital’s ongoing infrastructure development. The new five-kilometer highway, which will run through Margalla Road, is designed to reduce travel time, decongest main routes, and provide a smoother connection between Islamabad and the M-1 Motorway.

Under the approved development plan, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will execute the first 2.7 kilometers of the new road, while the remaining 2.3 kilometers will be completed by the National Highway Authority (NHA). The project is being funded under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), with the federal government allocating an impressive Rs6 billion to ensure fast and efficient completion.

A progress review meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa confirmed that both the CDA and NHA sections have received full PC-1 approval, meaning that all engineering, financial, and technical details have been cleared. This approval marks a crucial milestone, allowing the project to move from planning to implementation.

Officials also announced that the tendering process, including contractor selection and required documentation, will be completed within a week. Once tenders are finalized, on-ground construction will begin without delay.

The Islamabad M1 Motorway link road project is expected to provide major relief to daily commuters, especially those traveling from central and northern Islamabad toward the motorway. By reducing congestion on existing routes and ensuring a more efficient traffic flow, the project will enhance overall mobility across the capital.

With funding approved, design formalities completed, and the tendering phase almost wrapped up, Islamabad is now just weeks away from seeing physical work begin on a project that promises better connectivity, reduced congestion, and improved urban mobility.
