In a significant move to streamline traffic flow and improve road safety, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has officially banned the entry of heavy vehicles, overloaded trucks, and loader rickshaws into the capital city. The announcement was made by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (retd) Syed Zeeshan Haider on Thursday.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing road congestion and minimizing the risk of fatal accidents, which are often caused by the presence of large and overloaded vehicles on city roads.
What’s Banned?
- Heavy vehicles
- Overloaded trucks
- Loader rickshaws
These vehicles are now strictly prohibited from entering urban areas of Islamabad. The decision follows numerous complaints from commuters and rising incidents of road blockages and accidents involving such vehicles.
Enforcement Measures
To ensure the effectiveness of the ban, additional traffic personnel have been deployed at major intersections and entry points across the city. According to the CTO, strict action will be taken against any violators, including:
- Vehicle impoundment
- Fines
- Legal proceedings
Furthermore, the ITP has adopted a zero-tolerance policy for all traffic violations. These include:
- Overspeeding
- Signal breaking
- Lane violations
- Illegal parking
Offenders can expect heavy fines, and in serious cases, vehicle seizure and legal prosecution.
Smart Surveillance with Drones
In a move toward smart traffic enforcement, the ITP is expanding the use of drone surveillance across Islamabad. This technology will enable the traffic police to:
- Monitor violations in real-time
- Respond faster to congestion and accidents
- Collect data for better planning and management
Drone coverage is expected to be especially effective in catching violations in high-traffic zones and during rush hours.
The Islamabad heavy vehicle ban marks a proactive step toward making the capital’s roads safer and more efficient. With enhanced enforcement, drone technology, and a zero-tolerance approach, the ITP is sending a clear message: traffic violations will no longer be overlooked. Citizens are urged to comply with the new regulations to ensure a safer city for all.
