The Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) has achieved record-breaking success by generating unprecedented earnings from the auction of two major bus stands in Islamabad. The G-9 bus stand was awarded at an annual lease of Rs. 81.6 million, while the I-11 terminal fetched Rs. 38 million—both marking historic highs for the authority.
According to DMA officials, this year’s results represent a dramatic improvement from previous auctions. The G-9 bus stand, which had been leased for Rs. 37.9 million earlier, witnessed a 104% increase in value. Meanwhile, the I-11 terminal—previously auctioned for just Rs. 6.5 million—recorded a staggering 400% surge in bids, reflecting strong competition and renewed investor interest.
The turnaround follows extensive reforms under the leadership of Director DMA Dr. Anam Fatima. Since 2019, both G-9 and I-11 stands had been operating under self-collection, after repeated failures to attract bidders due to monopolistic practices by contractors.
Through tighter oversight, financial transparency, and corrective measures, the DMA gradually restored market confidence. At the G-9 stand, annual recoveries rose from Rs. 26 million to Rs. 37.9 million, while monthly collections doubled from Rs. 2.5 million to Rs. 5.5 million by mid-2025. These improvements set the stage for this year’s record auction results.
The successful G-9 bid includes a three-year contract with a mandatory 10% annual increase, ensuring sustainable revenue growth for the city.
The unprecedented rise in bids highlights the impact of reforms on Islamabad’s municipal infrastructure management. For the I-11 terminal, the jump from Rs. 6.5 million to Rs. 38 million annually has been described as one of the most significant revenue boosts in the DMA’s history.
A DMA spokesperson emphasized that the results reflect the authority’s commitment to financial accountability, transparency, and competitive market practices. The additional revenue is expected to strengthen urban services and support the Capital Development Authority’s broader development agenda.
The Islamabad bus stands auction for G-9 and I-11 demonstrates how strong governance and oversight can transform municipal revenue streams. With investor confidence restored and earnings reaching record levels, the DMA’s success is being hailed as a model for other public sector entities in Pakistan.
