The Islamabad Capital Police have announced an extension of the driving license deadline, moving it from October 1 to October 7, 2025. The decision was taken on the special instructions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, aiming to provide additional convenience to citizens amidst rising demand for driving licenses.
Crackdown on Unlicensed Drivers from October 18
While the deadline has been extended by one week, officials have made it clear that a strict crackdown will commence on October 18. The campaign will target motorists and motorcyclists operating without valid licenses. Penalties for violators will include:
- Arrest of offenders
- Impoundment of vehicles
- Ineligibility to receive character certificates until a valid license is obtained
This step underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring road safety and strengthening compliance with traffic laws in the federal capital.
Expanded Facilitation for Citizens
To accommodate the surge in applications, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have expanded their facilities by:
- Extending operating hours at license centers
- Deploying mobile licensing units across the city
- Increasing staffing at facilitation centers
Authorities have urged citizens to apply for driving licenses before the October 7 deadline to avoid legal complications.
Road Safety as a Priority
Officials emphasized that the crackdown is not only about law enforcement but also about protecting lives by reducing unlicensed driving, which often leads to accidents and violations. The move is part of broader efforts to improve traffic discipline, accountability, and road safety standards across Islamabad.
