Islamabad International Airport Revises Parking Charges

The parking charges at Islamabad International Airport have been revised upward, creating frustration among passengers and their families. The new tariff has come into effect as part of a fee adjustment that impacts both short-term and extended parking.

New Parking Rates

According to the revised structure:

  • First three hours: Increased from Rs 90 to Rs 120
  • Every additional hour: Raised from Rs 50 to Rs 70

This marks a noticeable jump in charges for those who frequently visit the airport to drop off or receive loved ones. Many travelers argue that the hike adds unnecessary financial burden, especially during peak travel seasons when waiting times are already extended.

Passenger Reactions and Disputes

Reports suggest that the new parking fees have sparked disputes between passengers, their families, and parking contractors at the airport. For many families, waiting beyond three hours due to flight delays or security procedures now translates into significantly higher costs.

Travelers have voiced concerns that such fee hikes reduce the convenience of using airport facilities, particularly for domestic passengers who often rely on relatives for drop-offs and pick-ups.

Awaiting Official Response

Efforts are currently underway to obtain an official response from Pakistan Airports Authority spokesperson Saifullah Khan regarding the reasons behind the increase. While airport authorities may argue that revised rates are meant to manage traffic flow and improve facilities, passengers continue to express dissatisfaction with the sudden change.

A Call for Balanced Policy

For Islamabad International Airport, striking a balance between revenue generation and passenger convenience remains critical. A transparent explanation from authorities, along with improved facilities such as dedicated waiting areas, could help ease public frustration.

Until then, the revised Islamabad airport parking charges remain a point of contention, raising questions about accessibility and affordability for ordinary travelers.
