The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has finalized comprehensive traffic arrangements to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow during the 9th of Muharram procession, scheduled for Saturday. The plan was confirmed by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (R) Zeeshan Haider, who urged citizens to follow the guidelines and cooperate with traffic police personnel deployed across the city.
According to the ITP, the main procession for the 9th of Muharram will begin from the central Imambargah located in G-6/2. It will proceed along its designated routes and return to the starting point. To maintain security and order during the procession, several key roads will be closed for normal traffic, and multiple alternative routes have been designated for commuters.
Fazl-e-Haq Road—from Polyclinic to Kulsoom Plaza—will remain closed for regular traffic. Citizens are advised to use Jinnah Avenue from Kulsoom Plaza to China Chowk as an alternative. Similarly, Seventh Avenue from Daman-e-Koh Chowk towards Chand Tara Chowk, including the Blue Area out loop and both sides of 7th Avenue Chowk, will also be inaccessible for normal traffic. Commuters can use Jinnah Avenue, Suharwardy Road, Faisal Avenue, and Margalla Road instead.
Saddar Road, spanning from Iqbal Hall to Melody Chowk, will be closed in both directions. As an alternative, citizens should use Aabpara and Suharwardy Road. Municipal Road, from Lal Masjid to Shohada Chowk and GPO Chowk, will also remain closed. Shaheed Millat Road will serve as an alternative for motorists traveling through this area.
Additionally, Luqman Hakeem Road, from Polyclinic to Iqbal Hall, will be closed for the duration of the procession. Jinnah Avenue will remain open and is recommended as an alternative route.
CTO Captain (R) Zeeshan Haider strictly advised the public to avoid illegal parking near the procession routes. Citizens are urged to park their vehicles only at designated parking spots to ensure clear passage for emergency and security vehicles.
Traffic police officers will be deployed along the entire route to manage diversions and guide commuters about alternative routes. The CTO has appealed to citizens to fully cooperate with the traffic police and follow all instructions to prevent inconvenience and ensure the safety of participants.
The Islamabad Traffic Police has requested the public to plan their journeys accordingly, avoid the affected roads where possible, and stay updated through official ITP communication channels.
For further assistance and real-time updates, commuters can contact the ITP helpline or follow official social media channels.
