International driving license facility now open at Lahore airport

Share

Overseas Pakistanis traveling through Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore can now conveniently obtain their international driving licenses right at the airport, thanks to a new initiative by the Lahore Traffic Police. This move is part of a broader push to modernize and digitize public services for citizens and expatriates alike.

Self-Service Traffic Kiosk at the Departure Lounge

A self-service traffic kiosk is being installed at the departure lounge of the airport. This 24/7 digital kiosk will allow outbound travelers to instantly obtain an international driving license by simply presenting their valid Pakistani driving license and visa. Once the documents are verified, a printed copy of the international license will be issued on the spot — eliminating the need to visit a traffic office or wait for manual processing.

In addition to international licenses, the kiosk will offer multiple services, including:

  • Renewal of learner permits
  • Renewal of local driving licenses
  • Renewal of international driving permits

This airport facility is aimed at providing round-the-clock convenience to overseas Pakistanis, particularly those facing time constraints or last-minute travel plans.

Citywide Expansion of Smart Traffic Services

The Lahore Traffic Police also announced that the number of self-service traffic kiosks in the city will increase to 10 by the end of this month, with an ambitious plan to expand to 100 kiosks across Lahore in the upcoming fiscal year. These kiosks are expected to be strategically placed in high-traffic public areas, such as shopping malls, transport hubs, and major markets.

Facilitating the Pakistani Diaspora

This initiative not only enhances the accessibility of essential traffic services but also reflects a strong commitment to supporting the Pakistani diaspora. With millions of overseas Pakistanis traveling in and out of the country annually, this digital convenience is a welcome step forward in streamlining administrative procedures and improving the overall travel experience.

The Rawalpindi government has imposed an immediate ban on motorcycles converted into makeshift loader-rickshaws using metal or wooden structures. Proper loader-rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws remain legal, but illegally modified bikes will be confiscated, and owners must remove the added parts under court supervision to reclaim them. The crackdown aims to improve road safety and reduce traffic hazards on busy routes.
