Hutchison Ports Pakistan has set a groundbreaking milestone in the country’s maritime sector by becoming the first deep-water container terminal to introduce electric trucks (e-Trucks) into its operations. This strategic move towards sustainable logistics reinforces the company’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions while enhancing operational efficiency.
Pakistan’s First Port to Integrate Electric Trucks
In an industry-first initiative, six e-Trucks have been deployed at the South Asia Pakistan Terminal (SAPT) in Karachi. These electric trucks complement the terminal’s existing Electric Rubber-Tyred Gantry Cranes (ERTGCs), forming part of a broader low-carbon, eco-friendly strategy. With this move, Karachi Port has become the first port in Pakistan to implement electric-powered logistics solutions.
Expansion Plans: More e-Trucks & Pakistan’s First Electric Empty Container Handler
Hutchison Ports Pakistan is not stopping here. The company has ambitious plans to further expand its electric fleet by mid-2025, which includes:
✅ 12 additional e-Trucks to strengthen sustainable logistics.
✅ Pakistan’s first-ever electric empty container handler, a game-changer for green port operations.
These initiatives align with Hutchison Ports’ global sustainability goals, particularly its mission to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Commitment to Innovation & Sustainability
According to CS Kim, Head of Business Unit at Hutchison Ports Pakistan, integrating electric vehicles into port operations is a significant step toward innovation and environmental responsibility. By investing in clean energy solutions, the company is not only enhancing efficiency but also setting a new industry benchmark for sustainability in Pakistan’s port sector.
The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has welcomed this initiative, recognizing its importance in reducing carbon emissions and improving port efficiency. This transformation is expected to redefine logistics and encourage more businesses in Pakistan to adopt green energy solutions.
A Leader in Eco-Friendly Port Operations
As the global shipping and logistics industry shifts toward green energy solutions, Hutchison Ports Pakistan is leading by example. By proactively aligning with international sustainability trends, the company is strengthening its position as a pioneer in eco-conscious port operations.
With its ongoing investment in electric vehicles and sustainable port management, Hutchison Ports Pakistan is shaping the future of green logistics and environmentally responsible trade.
