Lahore Enforces Helmet Rule for Rickshaw Drivers to Improve Road Safety

In a significant move to enhance road safety, Lahore’s traffic police have made helmets mandatory for motorcycle rickshaw and loader rickshaw drivers. The new rule officially took effect yesterday, with strict penalties for non-compliance.

Traffic Police Launch Awareness Campaign

To ensure that drivers understand the importance of the rule, Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) announced a helmet distribution campaign. Traffic officials are actively educating rickshaw drivers about the dangers of riding without head protection and encouraging compliance with the new safety measure.

Fines and Penalties for Violators

Drivers failing to wear helmets will face strict penalties, including fines and possible vehicle impoundment. This step follows similar safety regulations for motorcyclists in Lahore and Rawalpindi, aimed at reducing road accidents and minimizing head injuries.

Helmet Rule in Rawalpindi

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi’s traffic police implemented a similar law on February 1, enforcing a Rs. 2,000 fine for violators. Officials have emphasized that these regulations are essential for preventing fatalities and ensuring safer roads.

Why the New Rule Matters

Authorities stress that both drivers and passengers are vulnerable in accidents. Enforcing helmet usage among rickshaw drivers aligns with ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, reduce serious head injuries, and promote a culture of responsible driving.

With this initiative, Lahore takes another step toward safer roads and stricter traffic discipline, ensuring better protection for rickshaw drivers and passengers alike.
