The General Manager of Guangzhou Metro Group (GMG), a state-owned Chinese transportation company, has expressed readiness to assist Pakistan in developing a bullet train project if the country seeks support.
Speaking to local media, the GM highlighted that Guangzhou Metro handled billions of passenger journeys in 2024, with millions relying on the service every week. He emphasized that safety and punctuality remain top priorities, given the scale of operations and the vital role public transit plays in urban mobility.
Skilled Workforce Behind Success
The GM credited the metro system’s success to a skilled and diverse workforce, comprised of both men and women with advanced technical expertise. This strong talent pool, he said, has been essential in ensuring efficiency, reliability, and long-term trust in Guangzhou Metro’s services.
Global Reach and Collaboration
Guangzhou Metro’s achievements are not limited to China. The GM noted that GMG has already shared technology and expertise with international projects, including in Pakistan, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), and Hong Kong. This reflects the company’s reputation for setting global standards in metro planning, construction, and operations.
In Pakistan, GMG has previously contributed to infrastructure initiatives, and its willingness to assist in a bullet train project aligns with the growing demand for modern, high-speed rail connectivity in the country. Such a project could potentially revolutionize intercity travel, reducing journey times and easing the burden on existing transport systems.
A Step Toward Modern Rail Connectivity
While Pakistan has yet to formally pursue a bullet train initiative, Guangzhou Metro’s readiness signals a potential pathway for China-Pakistan collaboration in advanced transportation. If realized, the project could position Pakistan among countries investing in next-generation rail systems, bringing both economic and social benefits.
