By Google Maps has rolled out a long-awaited and highly practical feature for iPhone users that promises to make forgotten parking spots a thing of the past. As of December 2025, Google Maps on iOS can now automatically save your parking location without requiring any manual input from the driver.
The new feature works intelligently in the background. When an iPhone disconnects from a vehicle’s Bluetooth, USB cable, or Apple CarPlay, Google Maps instantly detects the event and automatically drops a pin at the exact parking location. This seamless automation removes the need for drivers to remember to save their spot before walking away from the car.
Smart, Clean, and Hassle-Free Parking Pins
One of the most user-friendly aspects of this update is how Google Maps manages the saved parking pin. According to Google Maps Senior Product Manager Rio Akasaka, who described the feature on LinkedIn as “personal parking maps velvet,” the pin remains visible for up to 48 hours. Even better, it automatically disappears once the user starts driving again, ensuring the map stays clean and clutter-free.
For users who enjoy customization, Google Maps adds an extra visual touch. If a user has selected a custom car icon in their Google Maps profile, that icon will appear at the parked location instead of the traditional “P” parking symbol. This small detail enhances personalization and makes the experience feel more intuitive.
