Petrol and Diesel Prices Increased Again: New Rates Effective from July 16, 2025

In a fresh blow to motorists and the transport sector, the federal government has announced yet another fuel price hike, revising petrol and diesel rates upward effective from July 16, 2025.

According to the latest notification by the Finance Division, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs. 5.36 per litre, bringing the new price to Rs. 272.15 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel (HSD) has seen an even steeper jump of Rs. 11.37 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs. 284.35 per litre.

This marks the second consecutive upward revision in fuel prices in recent weeks. In the previous fortnightly review, the price of petrol was raised by Rs. 8.36 per litre and diesel by Rs. 10.39 per litre.

The continued increase in fuel prices is largely attributed to rising global oil prices and the government’s efforts to meet revenue targets under its petroleum levy commitments. Higher diesel prices, in particular, tend to have a significant impact on the cost of transportation of goods and agricultural output, which may further fuel inflationary pressures in the country.

Motorists, transporters, and businesses have expressed serious concerns over the persistent fuel price hikes, warning that the rising cost of petroleum products will directly affect household budgets and industrial competitiveness alike.

The new prices will remain in effect until the next fortnightly review, which will determine whether global market trends and currency fluctuations bring any relief to Pakistani consumers.
