In a major boost for education and youth empowerment, the Punjab government has announced plans to distribute free motorcycles and laptops to 100,000 students across the province. The initiative aims to support deserving and talented students by addressing two of the most common challenges faced by young learners: transportation and access to modern educational tools.
The announcement was made by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz while addressing participants at the National Workshop Balochistan, where she emphasized that investing in youth is essential for the country’s future. She described young people as the nation’s most valuable asset and reiterated her government’s commitment to supporting students through practical, merit-based initiatives.
Merit-Based Distribution Under Student Welfare Programs
According to the chief minister, the distribution of free motorcycles and laptops will be carried out strictly on merit under existing student-focused schemes. These include the Honahaar Scholarship program, which is designed to assist high-performing and deserving students from diverse backgrounds.
Maryam Nawaz stressed that the initiative is particularly aimed at students who struggle with daily commuting to educational institutions and those who lack access to digital learning resources. By providing motorcycles, the government hopes to ease transportation difficulties, especially for students in remote or underserved areas. The laptops, meanwhile, are intended to enhance digital literacy and academic performance in an increasingly technology-driven education system.
Punjab’s Educational Institutions Open to All Provinces
Highlighting inclusivity, the chief minister noted that Punjab’s educational institutions are open to students from all provinces, adding that learners from across Pakistan are currently enrolled in colleges and universities throughout the province. She reaffirmed Punjab’s commitment to providing equal opportunities to students regardless of their regional background.
Broader Welfare and Development Initiatives
During her address, Maryam Nawaz also outlined several other welfare and development projects underway in Punjab. These include the construction of affordable housing for low-income families, free home delivery of medicines, and the expansion of healthcare services, with a special focus on children with special needs.
She further highlighted improvements in public transport and infrastructure, pointing to the operation of electric buses in Lahore, low-cost green bus services, and the ongoing expansion of transport facilities across the province.
Commitment to Youth and Transparency
Reiterating her government’s commitment to merit, transparency, and public service, the chief minister stated that more youth-centered initiatives will be introduced in the near future. The free motorcycles and laptops program is being seen as a significant step toward empowering students and strengthening Punjab’s education system.
The initiative is expected to play a key role in improving student mobility, digital access, and overall academic outcomes across the province.
