Islamabad Launches Free Emission Test Campaign to Combat Air Pollution

Share

In a bold move to tackle rising air pollution, Islamabad’s city administration has launched a Free Emission Test in Islamabad for all vehicles, aiming to identify and reduce smoke-emitting vehicles on the roads. This follows earlier environmental actions, such as the closure of polluting brick kilns, and forms part of the capital’s broader mission to improve air quality and public health.

Deadline & Enforcement

The free emission test service is available until August 31, 2025. Starting September 1, strict enforcement will begin. Vehicles emitting visible smoke will be fined heavily and could be banned from entering Islamabad altogether.

Test Locations in Islamabad

Vehicle owners can avail the free emission testing service at the following three locations:

  • Old Parade Ground
  • F-9 Park
  • Excise Office

Each location is equipped with internationally certified testing equipment, ensuring accurate and standardized results.

How It Works

  • No cost for the test until August 31
  • Vehicles that pass receive a barcode sticker on their windshield as proof
  • So far, 2,778 vehicles have been tested, with 2,665 meeting the required emission standards
  • All private and commercial vehicles are eligible
  • Vehicles manufactured in 2021 or later are temporarily exempt from the requirement

Public Response

Citizens have welcomed the initiative, praising it as a proactive step for environmental health. However, there have been calls for more testing centers to improve accessibility and reduce waiting times.

What Happens After August 31?

If your vehicle fails to meet the emission standards or you skip the test:

  • You could face heavy fines
  • Your vehicle may be denied entry into Islamabad
  • It could impact registration or renewal procedures in future

Why It Matters?

Air pollution is one of the leading health hazards in Pakistan’s urban centers. This campaign represents a critical step toward reducing vehicular emissions—one of the major contributors to smog and respiratory issues.

Final Reminder

Don’t wait until fines start rolling in. Visit any of the authorized testing centers in Islamabad before August 31 and get your vehicle emission tested for free. Let’s keep our city clean, green, and breathable.
