In a significant step toward solving long-standing urban challenges, city authorities in Faisalabad have approved two major development projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and promoting social activities. The decisions were made during a meeting chaired by Commissioner Raja Jehangir Anwar on Monday.

The first initiative involves the construction of a modern nine-storey parking plaza at the Old Mayor House site near Chiniot Bazaar. Covering 493,000 square feet, the project is expected to dramatically reduce parking problems in the city’s busiest commercial hub.

Features of the Parking Plaza

Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir outlined the details of the upcoming parking facility:

  • Basement and lower ground floors reserved for motorcycle parking
  • Lower ground, ground, and first floors to house a commercial market with 215 shops
  • Upper five floors allocated for car parking
  • Rooftop food court to enhance visitor convenience and provide a leisure spot

This facility, being developed through a joint effort of the district council and municipal corporation, is expected to address chronic parking shortages around the eight major bazaars near Clock Tower, one of Faisalabad’s most crowded commercial zones.

Food Street at Old Lady Park

In addition to the parking plaza, the meeting also approved the development of a food street at Old Lady Park. The project is designed to:

  • Provide residents and visitors with quality dining experiences
  • Promote traditional cuisine and local food culture
  • Create a vibrant social hub for families and tourists

The food street will not only add to the city’s recreational offerings but also support small businesses and local vendors.

Transforming Faisalabad’s Urban Landscape

The approval of these projects highlights the administration’s commitment to addressing urban challenges while enhancing community spaces. The Faisalabad Parking Plaza and Food Street are expected to provide long-term solutions for traffic congestion, boost commercial activity, and enrich the city’s cultural and social life.

By combining modern infrastructure with cultural promotion, Faisalabad is moving toward becoming a more organized, accessible, and people-friendly urban center.
