In a landmark move toward sustainable development, the Government of Sindh is set to revolutionize its transportation and energy sectors by rolling out EV Charging Stations at 50-kilometre intervals across all districts of the province. This ambitious plan follows a high-level visit by Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Minister for Energy Syed Nasir Hussain Shah to Chery Holdings Group in Wuhu, China.
During their visit, the provincial delegation was warmly welcomed by Chery Chairman Yin Tongyu, who expressed the company’s full support for Sindh’s electric mobility goals. Chery announced its readiness to install Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations in Sindh, aimed at serving electric cars, bikes, and trucks—a move that is expected to transform the region’s public and private transport infrastructure.
A Sustainable Vision for Sindh
Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that modernizing Sindh’s transport system and reducing carbon emissions are top government priorities. The proposed EV charging network will not only enhance convenience for EV users but also stimulate economic growth by creating new job opportunities in the green energy sector.
Additionally, Chery plans to establish an electric mini-truck assembly facility in Karachi, further boosting local manufacturing and reducing the cost of environmentally friendly vehicles.
Solar Power Projects in Rural Sindh
Complementing the EV initiative, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah shared updates on solarisation efforts across rural areas, particularly for low-income households. This initiative is already underway and aims to provide off-grid, affordable electricity solutions, empowering communities to meet their basic energy needs independently.
The ministers highlighted that these efforts will:
- Reduce dependence on expensive grid electricity
- Lower electricity costs for households
- Mitigate load shedding
- Create employment and promote local enterprise
Towards a Cleaner, Greener Sindh
With strategic investments in electric vehicle infrastructure and renewable energy, Sindh is positioning itself as a leader in Pakistan’s green transition. The combined impact of EV charging stations and solar power deployment is expected to significantly improve environmental sustainability, public health, and economic resilience.
