The government of Pakistan is making significant strides in promoting sustainable transportation by advancing its Electric Vehicles (EV) Policy. A key initiative involves the installation of EV charging stations at all petrol pumps in Islamabad, a move aimed at boosting EV adoption in the capital city.

During the fourth meeting on the EV Policy, chaired by Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, the progress on various EV initiatives was assessed. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) was directed to ensure the installation of charging stations at every petrol pump in Islamabad. Minister Tanveer lauded the CDA for its commitment to this transformative goal, emphasizing its importance in making Islamabad a model city for sustainable urban development.

Free Electric Bikes for Students and Subsidized EV Loans

In an effort to incentivize EV adoption, the government announced several exciting initiatives. The top 120 students from the Federal Board will receive free electric bikes, highlighting the government’s support for youth and education. Additionally, the government plans to introduce 39,000 electric bikes and 19,000 electric rickshaws, which will be offered on subsidized loans to make EVs more accessible to the public.

Expanding EV Infrastructure Nationwide

Beyond the capital, the government aims to establish 40 charging stations along motorways and national highways. This initiative will create a comprehensive EV charging network, ensuring convenience for electric vehicle owners traveling across the country. Federal Minister Hussain also emphasized the importance of transparency and efficiency in these efforts through digitalization.

Formal Announcement of EV Policy Expected Soon

The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling the Prime Minister’s vision of making Islamabad a model city, showcasing cutting-edge urban infrastructure. The formal announcement of the EV Policy is expected soon, marking a milestone in Pakistan’s transition toward greener and more sustainable mobility solutions.

By implementing these measures, Pakistan is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable transportation in the region, addressing environmental concerns while fostering economic and technological advancements.
